What is the difference between solitude and loneliness? At first glance, they seem very similar, yet deep down, are very different. Solitude arises from a personal choice – you choose to be alone, while loneliness is not by choice – you are alone, but you don’t want to be.
Before we dive into the topic of loneliness, let’s take a step back and look at the bigger picture. “Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Thessalonians 5:23) For us, human being, there are 3 aspects that need to be completed: body, soul, and spirit. The body addresses our physical needs, we desire health, food, shelter, and more. The soul encompasses our emotional needs, we want to feel satisfied, to belong, and most importantly, to feel loved. The spirit, however, is a different matter altogether; it pertains to our relationship with God, and only our Lord Jesus Christ can make it completed.
When falling into loneliness, which of these 3 aspects do people often pursue? It is the body. People try hard to satisfy their fleshly desires – drinking, taking drugs, seeking sexual partners, and so on. Those who pursue the soul’s needs often crave attention and love from others. Unfortunately, they end up chasing nothing but vanity. (Ecclesiastes 1:3)
So, how can we overcome loneliness? The solution is to complete our spirit in the Lord. “for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” (Revelation 7:17)
By mending our relationship with God, our body and soul can also be sanctified and completed. Our spiritual needs run much deeper and are directly linked to our body and soul, and no human being but Jesus can touch and heal our wounds in the spirit.
We encourage you to learn more about our Lord Jesus Christ, for He is the living fountain of water. Come join us so that you will not be alone on your journey of spiritual growth. And one day, you may transition from being a successor to a predecessor – passing down the love of Christ to someone in need and bringing other lonely souls to this living fountain of water to be healed and completed.

Once when I was young, I accompanied my parents to the supermarket. As we strolled down the aisles, I was immediately captivated by the rows of candy. A few minutes later, I looked up only to discover that my parents had disappeared. After my initial shock at being lost, a more daunting realization washed over me: I was completely alone because I no longer had my parents to rely on.
