Be Anxious for Nothing
We all face tribulations in life, they can be painful and make us anxious about the future. I am no different. The series of down moments in my life raised my anxiety level up to the ceiling. While seeking for ways to cope with the anxiety, I tried many different methods, such as writing daily journal, meditation, breathing method, etc. They calm the racing thoughts down, but only temporarily.
But Jesus has told us not to worry: “Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” Matthew 6:26 The beautiful lyrics in hymn His Eye Is on the Sparrow also stated, and I know He cares for me. Our Lord Jesus Christ cares about us. We can receive the true peace from Him if we cast our burden and anxiety to Him, and carry His yoke.
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made know to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus”. Philippians 4:6-7
God teaches us to face anxiety with prayer in supplication, with thanksgiving, and trust in Him.
I am now learning and starting to take action in a more disciplined and Godly manner to draw closer to God. I hope to experience what it takes to be selfless—putting others before myself from thoughts to actions. I am taking steps to be more aware of how my actions–which may be of good intention—may become a problem instead for the recipient just because I want to satisfy my need to feel good about myself by doing something good for others.
All my life I was focused on me—how I can get further, better and more by leveraging others to get what I want. But being in the company of God-loving and fearing brothers and sisters made me realize how self-centered I have been.
It is hard for me to unsnap a lifetime of living a life and gaining benefits solely for myself through “using” others. I was blind but now I begin to see myself more truthfully—the behavior, attitude and actions of such Godly company of friends made me see my own reflection.
I am now resolved to pursue and try harder to surrender to God. He’s taking care of my wellness—from physical to mental to spiritual. It is now going to be we, them, others from now on. Starting with Him.
Come join us to see ourselves better through a Godly lens and get better together. We look forward to seeing you with us and worshiping our true God together! Join us in the upcoming Fall Evangelical Service and Spiritual Convocation in September.
