Truth about God (7)

Whenever I’ve argued with my parents, friends, classmates, or anyone else, I’ve felt utterly helpless and wronged. Why does it seem like no one understands me, and why does it feel like everyone is against me? However, harboring pain doesn’t solve anything; it only leads to more internal strife! Through my growing understanding of the Bible, I’ve gradually discovered a way out.

It’s like the story in the Book of Nehemiah, where Prophet Nehemiah rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem. Similarly, when issues between us and others remain unresolved, our relational walls develop cracks. If we don’t address these issues promptly, the walls will collapse, and our relationships will break apart. Thus, the first step to repairing a relationship is inspection.

To mend a rift, we must first identify where it is. We can take inspiration from Prophet Nehemiah, who inspected the wall’s damages alone. Taking time to think by ourselves allows both parties to cool down and prevents the escalation of conflict. We need to ponder the root cause of the issue, considering if we’ve done or said something that could have led to misunderstandings, especially with those close to us, since the closer we are to someone, the more we tend to get hurt. Matthew 7:3-5 asks, why do we see the speck in our brother’s eye but fail to notice the log in our own eye? If we haven’t resolved our issues, how can we expect others to correct theirs? Only by addressing our problems can we help others to amend theirs.

So, when problems arise, we shouldn’t run away. Instead, we should actively seek out and examine the issue within ourselves. Identifying the problem’s location is the first and a crucial step.

Why is my luck so bad? Why am I so unlucky? Why criticize me and not them? It’s all their fault, etc. If we don’t step out of this vicious cycle, we’ll only sink deeper.

In life, we are often swayed by our emotions, like how we might argue with our parents out of frustration for their lack of understanding and preaching, saying words in a moment of impulse that deeply hurt them.

When I misjudge others, I overlook a serious issue: my misunderstandings and accusations can deeply hurt others and even damage precious relationships. I hadn’t considered how much pain and injustice they might feel.
