Mending the Rifts – The Examiner’s Perspective on Viewing Issues

My inherent biases and preconceptions often unknowingly influence my judgment of situations and people, causing me to miss countless opportunities for deeper connections and even misunderstanding the innocent. When I misjudge others, I overlook a serious issue: my misunderstandings and accusations can deeply hurt others and even damage precious relationships. I hadn’t considered how much pain and injustice they might feel, and this is something I need to change.

Matthew 7:12 says, “Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them.” We don’t like being unfairly treat, so when we encounter situations, are we willing to try and see things from the other person’s perspective, to understand their actions? Like when we argue with our parents over their nagging and lecturing, have we considered that they are just overly concerned and worried about us? Or when we have conflicts with friends over certain issues, have we misunderstood them, or is there another reason behind their actions? We need to grow up and not always be indifferent to others’ feelings.

Brethren, do not be children in understanding; however, in malice be babes, but in understanding be mature.” (1 Corinthians 14:20, NKJV). We should ” put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.” (Colossians 3:12-13, NKJV). Let’s not let our preconceptions cloud our judgment.
