Truth about God (10)

Filling the Void Within

Growing up, I often pondered the meaning of life. Every day felt like the same thing over and over again—“rise with the sun, rest with the set.” How is that different from being a machine? Later, as I grew up, I discovered the internet, but it still couldn’t shake off the monotony. Entertainment and work failed to bring real satisfaction and joy; they often left me feeling emptier and more confused after fleeting moments of happiness. Just like Ecclesiastes 1:2 says, “Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.” So why do we feel this emptiness?

It’s because I hadn’t experienced God’s goodness. Like a pen without an ink cartridge, no matter how hard we try to write—even to the point of tearing the paper—we can’t produce any real words. Or, life is like a journey; we want to take our family to see beautiful scenery. We know the beauty of the destination but not the way there, and end up either wandering aimlessly or giving up halfway. But now, I’ve experienced the beauty of God’s guidance!

Whenever I felt lost due to my studies or career, it was God gently holding my hand and guiding me. When I fell along life’s path, it was God who used the goodness around me to soothe my wounds. When I was troubled by the world, it was God who calmed the storms within me. God allowed me to see rainbows in the storms, beauty in the pain, and colors in the world.

If we think we can only feel joy, happiness, and satisfaction after reaching our destination, then it’s just a fairy tale. But if we are on the right path and God is with us, the journey itself is profoundly moving. God will also wash away the weariness and burdens of our journey, just as Isaiah 40:11 says: “He will feed His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs with His arm, and carry them in His bosom, and gently lead those who are with young.” Because God is our shepherd, our guide.

I didn’t know which direction to head or felt unable to control my path, leading to a loss of goals and the courage to seek direction.

As time passes, the problems pile up, eventually overwhelming me. To make myself feel “better,” I engage in more pointless activities, trapping myself in a vicious cycle.

We all strive to push our limits and grow, whether in knowledge, character, or emotions, but ultimately, we can never fully master all knowledge, attain perfect character, or live without emotional regrets.
