When I study the bible; King David is one of the characters that I always go to. Although he had many trials and failures in life; he repented and remained in God’s peace and love. God remembers him as the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel. (2 Sam 23:1)
And his story also has a connection of “rebuilding the wall”. Because David played a big role in building the walls of Jerusalem which Nehemiah and Ezra wanted to rebuild. They wanted Israel people to go back to the ordinances of David’s time. David loved God, and God answered his prayers. So, God and David worked together to design and build a network of talent and leveraging the strengths, spirit to work in one accord for the Lord system of worship.
This system is a result of David’s love. He was living in a palace and felt compelled to do the same for God and His people. David focused on God and not on himself. He actively put the thought into action to benefit others and the whole house of Israel. The beneficiaries were to be for the current and future generations to come. If we learn from David’s love towards God and His people, we will be accepted in God’s eyes.
How can we bring peace and love for ourselves and others? It starts with taking a truthful look at ourselves, praying to Him for wisdom in peace and love. When we are really truthful in Him, extraordinary things can happen. Let’s take Bach who revealed God’s peace and love, for example. J.S. Bach, he composed 300 cantatas in three years, to help his church to have a well-established music worship system. (A cantata is a musical composition that combines vocal and instrumental elements and is typically around 20 minutes long.)
Bach didn’t know if he could make it. But he accomplished it. And these 300 cantatas covered every church event in that three year. Which means, whenever there was an event, there would be a completely new cantata for the church choir and ensemble to present. And the choir will learn and present the new cantata in every six days.
I often find the similarities between Bach and King David. They both established a system for worshiping God and with it came the expression of peace and love. And that requires lots of dedication and commitment.
Through David’s arrangement, the musicians at that time also were focusing on serving the Lord with music, day and night.
【1Chr9:33】”These are the singers, heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites, who lodged in the chambers, and were free from other duties; for they were employed in that work day and night.”
Those are good examples for us to consider, to discover what can we do for God. It can start with be some quite simple like, “Oh, I need to talk to this person, he/she may need God’s help through me.” Or “oh I need to come to God’s church, to know His truth; and to worship Him in spirit and truth.” In the end, we want to draw people closer to God and in peace and love.
【Ps19:14】”Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.”
