Finding True Abundance in Christ Through Faith
The world is always bombarding us with all kinds of ideas and philosophies on how to live a truly fulfilling and abundant life. Some folks say the key is to have a super successful career. Others believe that family should be the top priority. And let’s not forget the crowd that promotes this whole independent, live-in-the-moment lifestyle, where we’re supposed to just chase our happiness, ditch our responsibilities, and spend all our time and money on travel and experiences.
Think about those folks who think money is the be-all and end-all – they push themselves to the brink just to build up their bank accounts, or they obsess over every penny they spend, even when they’re already comfortable. And in the process, they end up losing so much – their relationships, their health, even their spiritual well-being. As Mark 8:36-37 states: “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?”
As a Christian, I know that the Good Shepherd laid down His life so that we could have eternal life after we die. But you know what? He also promises us abundant life here on earth, through the blessings and grace of God. That’s why I’m so grateful for what Jesus said in John 10:10b, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” The truth is our health, our jobs, our finances – they can all change in an instant. Remember that Hawaii missile scare? Talk about feeling terrified and helpless! Life is so unpredictable, like the ocean – it can be calm and beautiful one minute, and then a raging storm the next. That’s why we need Jesus to be our anchor in the storm. True peace isn’t about everything going our way – it’s about having Jesus by our side, no matter what. That’s why I’m so grateful for the peace that Jesus offers.
Everyone needs hope – something to look forward to. At the end of the day, we live in a world that’s constantly changing and full of chaos and uncertainty. No matter how tightly we cling to our earthly possessions and achievements, they’re just too short-lived to offer us true peace and security. But with faith in Jesus, we can access the enduring peace and hope that calm the storm in our hearts. When we place our faith in Jesus, something incredible happens. Our focus shifts from our own efforts to God’s power. We stop stressing about having enough and start trusting that God is more than enough. Philippians 4:19 assures us, “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
That enables us to boldly face any tribulations and walk the right path toward our heavenly hope (Rom 5:1–5). When we grasp that true peace and hope, it’ll lead us to a life that’s truly abundant and flourishing. That’s the kind of life I want, and I know that you do too.
We look forward to seeing you with us and worshiping together to our true God! Join us in the upcoming Fall Evangelical Service and Spiritual Convocation.
