Find Overall Life Balance with Us (5)

The concept of life balance is one that is often mused upon, but seldom truly achieved. Many seek to juggle work, play, personal growth, and spiritual development, and yet, these often conflict rather than coexist harmoniously. As a Christian, I found the solution lies not only in temporal balance but in spiritual balance, derived from the teachings of the Bible.

My journey towards life balance began with my childhood obsession with video games. This compulsion was all-consuming, much like the characters of The Sims, whose ‘fun’ bar was never truly satisfied. This pursuit of enjoyment became a strain, affecting not only my academics and relationships but also my spiritual connection with God. However, as mentioned in Matthew 11:28, “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” This scripture resonated with me, prompting a conscious decision to quit video games and restore balance to my life balance.

However, isn’t merely about subtracting negative influences. It also involves adding positive ones. As Jeremiah 18:6 states, “Can I not do with you as this potter has done? declares the LORD. Behold, like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand.” The notion of being molded for a divine purpose led me to engage in service, becoming an instrument of God’s love in my community. Following the mentor-mentee relationships in the Bible, I sought spiritual growth alongside service.

This life of service, paired with self-growth, became the new rhythm of my life. My faith wasn’t confined to personal growth; it spread through my actions, shaping me as a young Christian, and serving as a testament to my journey. However, the key to genuine service is understanding whom we serve, as Galatians 1:10 urges us to seek the approval of God over men. This attitude allowed me to find joy and purpose in simple activities and meaningful engagements.

While my journey towards balance has helped me lead a fulfilling life, it has also prompted deeper reflections on the nature of life itself. The existential question, posed in Matthew 16:26, “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?” urges us to look beyond worldly gains. In my pursuit of life balance, I discovered that true significance lies in spiritual rebirth, as illustrated in John 3:3, 5, 7, and Titus 3:5. By maintaining faith and determination, I found a sense of purpose that transcends earthly existence.

In conclusion, life balance isn’t just about managing time and tasks. It’s about the delicate interplay between worldly responsibilities and spiritual growth, and about seeking approval not from society but from God. This balance has allowed me to transform my life from an obsessive pursuit of temporal satisfaction to a fulfilling journey of faith and service. Through the teachings of the Bible, I found not just balance, but a life imbued with divine purpose.

This essay narrates the author’s journey from an unhealthy obsession with video games to a conscious decision to quit the habit. Through the process, he learned the importance of maintaining a balanced life, discovered joy in simple activities, improved his academics, got involved with fellowship, and flourished spiritually, reinforcing the notion that too much of anything can be detrimental and balance is key to a fulfilling life.

This essay emphasizes that understanding the origin and destiny of life provides balance, with Christianity offering an anchor of assurance, suggesting life is imbued with divine purpose and the promise of eternal life. However, merely professing faith doesn’t guarantee a life of significance, as true meaning arises from conforming to God’s will, thus maintaining faith is essential for securing life’s purpose.

This essay discusses the importance of balance as a young Christian, drawing inspiration from Biblical teachings and emphasizing the role of mentorship, multifaceted service to God, and self-growth. The author underscores that while serving, it’s crucial to keep in mind that the goal is to glorify God, not seeking human approval, and that one doesn’t need to be extraordinary to serve the Lord but must demonstrate willingness.
