Find Overall Life Balance with Us (7)

Beloved brethren, I am Nehemiah, once a modest servant before the king, who, by divine orchestration, was called to shepherd Judah as its governor. Entrusted with a monumental task, the Lord guided me in the restoration of Jerusalem’s walls. My days were a testament to the Lord’s provision, each moment filled with the labor of leadership, diplomacy, and societal renewal. Yet, amidst this ceaseless toil, I sought to honor my family, though Scripture speaks little of these efforts.

“A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps” (Proverbs 16:9). Despite the burdens that weighed heavily upon me, I was but a vessel for His will, a man of flesh and spirit, navigating the trials of leadership with prayer and perseverance.

With clarity of vision, inspired by divine wisdom, I assessed the ruins, marshaling the people with a heart emboldened by faith. “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10) This narrative is not merely a chronicle of past deeds but a blueprint for leading with conviction and divine guidance.

In the whirlwind of life’s demands, finding harmony between our callings and our sanctuaries requires wisdom from above. Through my journey, I pondered several points for living a balanced life, which I believe are invaluable for contemporary leaders:

  1. Prioritizing Your Relationship with God: The cornerstone of existence. “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33) Our foremost commitment is to our Creator, ensuring our spiritual well-being while managing earthly responsibilities.
  2. Balancing Work and Rest: The Scripture instructs, “Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God” (Exodus 20:9-10a). In the rhythm of toil and rest, we find divine blessing, a sacred pause that rejuvenates soul and body.
  3. Importance of Family and Relationships: “Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor” (Ecclesiastes 4:9). Cherishing and cultivating the bonds of love and kinship are essential, reflecting the heart of God in our closest human connections.
  4. Moderation and Avoiding Extremes: “Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand” (Philippians 4:5). In humility and contentment, we walk a path that eschews excess, embracing a life of balance and gratitude.

The legacy we build extends far beyond physical edifices; it is a beacon of what can be achieved through faith, united effort, and steadfast commitment. More profoundly, it is an affirmation that true leadership is about establishing firm foundations—not only in the works of our hands but within our hearts, our families, and our communities. As we seek equilibrium, nurture our circles of support, and cling to faith, we forge a legacy that transcends mere accomplishments, resonating in the essence of our being.

Let us endeavor, not merely to erect walls, but to construct lives imbued with hope, faith, and love. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” (Galatians 6:9) Continue to shine your light brightly, dear friends, for the glory of our Lord.
