Life is Richer with Less

Jesus taught us that you cannot serve God and money (Matthew 6:24). I witnessed that people lived in Cambodia were happier than people who lived in Japan. I found that life is better when my husband was out of work. I trusted in God’s promise and enjoyed a richer life with less material possessions. How can I live a life of contentment?

The Bible teaches that life is richer with less. This means that true richness comes from living a life of contentment and following God, not from accumulating material possessions. This is because materialism can lead me to focus on the wrong things in life. When I am consumed with my possessions, I become enslaved to them, and they can lead me into temptation and destruction. But when I focus on God and His kingdom, I find true satisfaction and peace.

Here are some of my thoughts on the biblical teaching of “life is richer with less”:

  1. Contentment is key. When we are content with what we have, we are free to enjoy life and to focus on the things that are truly important.
  2. Relationships are more important than possessions. Our relationships with family, friends, and God are what give our lives meaning.
  3. Experiences are more valuable than things. The memories we make and the lessons we learn are what make us rich.
  4. Giving is more rewarding than receiving. When we give to others, we are not only helping them, but we are also enriching our own lives.

If you are feeling weighed down by your possessions, remember that true richness comes from living a life of contentment and following God. He will provide for you all that you need, and He will help you to find true satisfaction in life. As Hebrews 13:5-6 states: “Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for He has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’ So we can confidently say, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?’”

If you want to live a richer life, start by focusing on the things that are truly important and long lasting. Contentment, relationships, experiences, and giving are all more important than possessions. When you focus on these things, you will find that life is richer than you ever imagined. Moreover, it’s essential to nourish the quality of our intimate relationships, especially with God. A deep, personal connection with the Divine enhances our capacity for love, compassion, and understanding, leading us to live more empathetically and selflessly. This spiritual intimacy, combined with our worldly priorities, brings about a truly fulfilling life, filled with grace and profound satisfaction.
