Thrive in College & Career (4)

It is 3 am in the morning, and you find yourself grappling with the weight of the most crucial exam of your life. The words dance before your tired eyes, twisting and turning with multiple viewpoints. You strain to uncover the author’s true intentions, but alas, you feel completely off the mark. With a sense of frustration, you go back to the beginning, dedicating another precious 20 minutes to re-reading and searching for the answer that seems only remotely connected to your understanding. It feels as if the author is mocking you, leading you to question your own intelligence.

As the days turned into nights, you poured your heart and soul into your project, working tirelessly for a week straight. You gave it your all, striving to showcase the knowledge and skill you had acquired after many years of diligent study in college. With each passing hour, exhaustion settled in, yet your determination propelled you onward. But then, to your dismay, your supervisor failed to acknowledge your tireless endeavors. Overwhelmed by disappointment, self-doubt loomed large, causing you to question the value of those dedicated years in college. Anxious thoughts filled your mind, fretting over how others perceive you.

Have you ever encountered moments like these? There was a time when you held a steadfast belief that your hard work and dedication would lead you to triumph in every aspect of life. You envisioned acing that exam, receiving the dream job offer, and living a life filled with joy and fulfillment. However, it can be disheartening how one late night, in the depths of 3am, can trigger self-doubt. Thoughts arise, whispering, “Do I still deserve my dreams?”

In times like these, we turn to God, for He holds the true power that cannot be defeated. When we feel helpless, hopeless, or discouraged because our hard work hasn’t brought the desired outcome or reward, it is our unwavering faith in God that revitalizes us with renewed strength. Isaiah 40:31 reminds us that “those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31, NIV)

Furthermore, we understand the everlasting value of diligence for God. While it may not immediately solve the specific situation we face or grant the exact position we’ve longed for, we can trust that it is all part of a divinely ordained journey leading us to ultimate blessings. Proverbs 3:5-6 encourage us that, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6, NIV)

Our solid faith in God and His limitless capabilities assures us that when we surrender our burdens to Him, He will provide the answers we seek. So, my friend, entrust your worries to Him and believe that He will guide you through. You are deserving of all the good things that life has to offer. Trust in God’s divine plan for your life, for He has dreams and blessings in store for you that surpass anything you can imagine.

This is an incredible testimony on how a student who was able to conquer temptations in college, secured a great job only to quit because of one thing—listening and obeying God.  What she gained was much more than what she gave up because she trusted and acted on God’s guidance to recognize what’s most important in life.

It is important and good to pray for God’s guidance especially when you are struggling to cope with college pressures.  But what if you are so tired and overwhelmed till you run out of energy even to pray?  Read about this testimony on how a college student relied on God by being part of a circle of college spiritual buddies to cope and thrive through college.  “…pray for each other so that you may be healed.  The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”  James 5:16

We all play different roles simultaneously and sometimes we minimize a particular role thinking it is not a priority when it should be.  Or worse, we ignore it and justify it because we are not in the position to help out or do something about it.  Find out what role God wants you to play and how you get to know which one(s) you need to pay attention to.  Be a useful vessel for God and others.
