Be anxious for nothing
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. ”(Philippians 4:6-7).
We worry because when we face difficulties, we often don’t hand over everything to God through prayer. Instead, we try to solve problems on our own. Because human abilities are limited, even after trying everything, we are still helpless. This leads to anxiety and sleepless nights.
Psalm 37:5 says, “Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, AND He shall bring it to pass.’’ This was King David’s experience in his faith life, and it is a common experience for many with simple faith. Why not give it a try?
When we are overwhelmed by troubles, we usually complain to our parents, spouse, or friends. They might offer comforting or motivating words, but they can’t solve our problems; however, we feel a bit relieved. So, why not tell God? If you thank Him and tell Him what you need, He will assure you unexpected peace that is from God’s love toward us.
Keeping a thankful heart and telling God our needs is the right attitude. We should be grateful to God because although we have lost many things like money, jobs, or health; we haven’t lost our lives. We are still alive and can start over. When Job lost all his possessions and children, he said to God in Job 1:21, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.” This kind of faith is worth following. Just like how Job showed us, he accepted what happened to him and let go of the past. Then, God provided him a future of new hope, and that hope brought him again peace and love. If Job were alive today, he would declare loudly to us: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Cor 5:17)
