Mending the Rifts – The Examiner Shouldn’t Be Swayed by Emotions

In life, we are often swayed by our emotions, like how we might argue with our parents out of frustration for their lack of understanding and preaching, saying words in a moment of impulse that deeply hurt them, even when we realize they were just worried about us. Or in a moment of anger, we fail to make the right judgment, leading to misunderstandings with friends, or even actions that hurt them deeply.

Negative emotions can lead not only to misjudgments but also to irreversible actions. When Cain offered sacrifices to God but wasn’t accepted, he became very angry and his countenance fell (Genesis 4:5). Unable to quell his anger, he killed his brother Abel in vengeance, becoming the first murderer in human history. Even after God pointed out Cain’s issue, he didn’t examine his own problems but acted out of anger, killing his brother. And such incidents don’t just occur in the Bible; many similar events happen in our world today.

If we want to mend our interpersonal relationships, we need to approach what has happened with the right mindset or emotion. Only by seeing the facts beneath our emotions can we accurately identify the root cause of the problem, “He who is slow to wrath has great understanding, But he who is impulsive exalts folly.” (Proverbs 14:29)

Let’s not allow our moments of impulsiveness to deeply hurt those we love, those who love us, or anyone else. For peace, longsuffering, gentleness, and self-control are the fruits of the Spirit and reflect God’s glory。

Just as taught in the Bible:

Proverbs 15:1 – “A soft answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger.

Proverbs 15:18 – “A wrathful man stirs up strife, But he who is slow to anger allays contention.
