How do you choose which college to go to?
Face it. When choosing which colleges to apply for admission, you want to go to the best college that you qualify for. When choosing which college offer to accept, you want to accept the one that gives you the best steppingstone to grow to the next educational level and best positions you for application to promising careers. However, there are more valuable and important matters that you need to consider when choosing amongst colleges. Those that concern your whole future on earth—spiritual growth, servitude, holiness, marriage, and pleasing God.
“Make the choice that you think God wants you to make, and just do what you think is right. Life always continues, despite the choices people make.”
No matter what choices you make, God’s love for you never disappears. If your decision reflects your won love for God, He will surely provide. For example, if you think that God wants you to better serve Him, then choose the college (and location) where the opportunity resides.
Making the Transition to College
Transitioning to college can be nerve wrecking if you do not know what to expect. If you chose a college with your local church presence, then the transition would be smoother because of familiarity and trust in fellow members—you know what to expect and they of you. It would be like moving into a family who shares the same core values in God. You will get more than social friendship. You will experience Godly fellowship and perhaps campus fellowship opportunities when you collaborate with the local youth fellowship group. In the process, you can have fun activities too like going out for dinners, cooking, singing and celebrating festivities together. You will not be alone. You will be amongst friends who care and love others in His ways.
Growing—and receiving more blessings—beyond the College environment
Participating in serving God helps you develop responsibility and accountability. It also comes with blessings. The servitude can range from hymnal leading to piano playing to leading bible studies. Go ahead and give your best to the Master.
Opening Your Eyes
Besides learning academics, you will learn how to love God even more when you serve Him. God answers the prayers of those who have pure motivations. Seek earnestly for Him and trust the Lord with all your heart. You will see what gifts He has given you and you make the best use of them to be a useful vessel for Him and His people. “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. And God has placed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? Now eagerly desire the greater gifts.” 1 Corinthians 12:27-31.
Trust and No Worries
When you put all your trust in God, you never need to worry because He is in control, and you will be at peace. “So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:31-34.
When you put God first in your life, everything else will fall into place. All you must do is seek earnestly for Him and trust in Him. God is far more important and powerful than anything this world has to offer. If you put God first in your life, you can also be confident that God will bless you abundantly not only with material or college blessings, but more importantly, with spiritual blessings.
