Psalm 126 is a song of ascent; it recalls the journey of the Jews from their captivity in Babylon to their homeland, Jerusalem. Similarly, today’s Christians, like the Jews once held captive, can escape from the grip of sin, and achieve true peace through God’s mercy. God’s redemption is incredibly miraculous, filled with His abundant grace.
The True Jesus Church in the UK experienced such miraculous guidance in its early church history. The early believers of the True Jesus Church in the UK were immigrants from the small fishing island of Ap Chau in Hong Kong. Ap Chau established the True Jesus Church in 1952, becoming the only island in Hong Kong with Christian beliefs. At its peak, this fishing island was home to nearly a thousand inhabitants.
However, a turning point came in the 1960s when the residents of Ap Chau collectively emigrated to the UK. Without a place of worship in the UK, their faith gradually cooled as they became strangers in a foreign land. This situation persisted until 1972. Then, the International Assembly of the True Jesus Church, sent holy workers to assist these believers, in establishing their faith. Hence, they started to have regular services in UK.
To help these believers there to reconnect with God, the church workers sowed in tears, experiencing much indifference and rejection. However, under God’s guidance, these immigrants from Ap Chau finally established the first True Jesus Church in the UK, in Newcastle upon Tyne, in 1976. Decades have passed, and the believers still get excited and feel gratitude for God’s grace and magnificent guidance when they remember those times.
Indeed, when we rely on God, turn to Him, and obey His guidance; even if we go through hardship, we can rejoice in Him.
