Good Pasture for My Sheep
How would you feel if you are given a map puzzle of an unknown place and a destination name without any information of your current location? And even worse, there is no GPS? Well, that was how I felt when I got my first job.
For the first few weeks after I started the job, there were three questions that stuck in my head: “What is this?”, “How did it get here?”, and “How does it move forward?”. As a successor, how I wished I could shadow my predecessor a few days for me to just ask questions. The pressure kept increasing because deadlines were coming, and projects needed to get going. Thank God that all my co-workers were nice and understanding. Some of them helped me put the puzzles pieces together, and some helped indicate where I was on the map.
My personal experience made me think about succession in career. Succession is not just to keep the work going. Succession is about how to prepare the successor to do a better job on top of keeping the work going. Bible says a good shepherd knows His sheep (John 10:14). A good shepherd must also know the green pastures that the sheep live in. I thank God that I was surrounded by people who were willing to help. And they also created an environment for me to learn and grow.
“I will feed them in good pasture, and their fold shall be on the high mountains of Isreal. There they shall lie down in a good fold and feed in rich pasture on the mountains of Isreal.” (Ezekiel 34:14)
As I reflect by looking back, God put me into those situations to humble me so that I can learn better. He helped me see a bigger picture by letting me focus on more than just the tasks. And He gave me the opportunity to grow and thrive in career.
What happens to our career can also happen to our faith, are we putting our sheep in good pastures? Are the people, including ourselves, in our career or church willing to create a conducive environment that overcomes physical, cultural, and spiritual challenges? Come and learn more about the Doctrine through bible studies, sermons and fellowship. We warmly welcome you to our upcoming Spring 2025 Evangelical Service and Spiritual Convocation.
