The Importance of Faith—Why Believe in Jesus?
For Peace in This Life
The primary reason people seek religion and worship deities is to find peace. There are countless gods and religions in the world, but which one can truly grant us peace? In reality, only the one true and living God—Jesus Christ—can give us true peace (John 14:27, NKJV). So, what kind of peace does He offer us?
- Jesus Can Heal All Diseases
Illness robs people of peace and brings great suffering. However, Jesus, the Creator, is also the Almighty Healer. There is no disease beyond His power to heal. If He wills, even the dead can be brought back to life (Matthew 9:25, NKJV).
In our church, we have countless testimonies of His healing power. Many of our members came to faith because they were miraculously healed by the Lord Jesus from incurable diseases. When we trust in this Almighty Healer, He will surely grant us peace.
- Jesus Can Deliver Us from Addictions and Sinful Habits
There is a saying: “It is easier to change mountains and rivers than to change a person’s nature.” Another proverb states: “It is easier to conquer external enemies than to overcome the enemy within.” Once someone develops bad habits—such as smoking, drinking, gambling, or other vices—it is nearly impossible to overcome them through human willpower alone.
However, when the Spirit of God works within a person, what once seemed impossible can be changed without them even realizing it. For what is impossible with man is possible with God (Matthew 19:26, NKJV).
The apostle Paul confessed: “For to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!” (Romans 7:18, 24-25, NKJV)
Only Jesus can free us from our sinful habits and lead us into a life of true peace and freedom.
- Jesus Is Our Refuge
The Bible declares: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with its swelling.” (Psalm 46:1-3, NKJV). It also says: “Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling.” (Psalm 91:9-10, NKJV)
These verses assure us that God is our shelter. If we trust in Him, what calamity should we fear? As King David proclaimed: “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1, NKJV)
For Eternal Life After Death
Many seek God primarily for peace in this life, but even more important is securing eternal life in the next. The present world is temporary, but the unseen world to come is everlasting (2 Corinthians 4:18, NKJV). How can the fleeting nature of this life compare to the eternal nature of the afterlife?
Therefore, the crucial question we must ask is: “Where will we go after this life?”
The Bible tells us there are only two possible destinations for the soul—eternal life in heaven or eternal punishment in hell (Matthew 25:46; 7:13-14, NKJV). So, who can lead us to eternal life in heaven? Only Jesus Christ! Peter testified: “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12, NKJV), Jesus Himself said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6, NKJV)
Thus, like Peter, we should ask: “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” (John 6:68, NKJV), The apostles Peter and Paul endured suffering and hardship to preach the gospel because they had a clear understanding that “Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:16, NKJV)
But is there proof that those who believe in Jesus will go to heaven after death? The Bible assures us that the Holy Spirit, given by God, is the guarantee of our inheritance in His kingdom (Ephesians 1:14, NKJV).
This faith is not based on empty belief, nor is it superstition—it is grounded in real evidence! Many believers pass away with great peace in their hearts because they have this assurance. Some even witness their loved ones entering heaven through divine visions at the moment of their passing. These are the tangible proofs that God provides to strengthen our faith in the promise of eternal life.
