Learning to Enjoy Peace in Christ
The peace that people seek in this world often revolves around their desires coming true—success in their careers, good health, financial prosperity, a happy marriage, and obedient children. In today’s society, the pursuit of peace is widespread. Some turn to idol worship, while others rely on their own efforts. Yet, the result is often the opposite—true peace remains elusive, suffering does not cease, and neither the body nor the soul finds rest.
In fact, the Bible has already told us: “In the world you will have tribulation.” (John 16:33, NKJV) Suffering is inevitable in this life. As the saying goes, “Nine out of ten things in life do not go as planned.” However, Jesus also assures us that in Him, we may have peace.
Many members of the church have come to believe in Jesus after experiencing God’s healing. Yet, even among those who have been baptized, some still struggle with spiritual weakness. Through my personal journey of reading the Bible, I have gradually come to understand that “enjoying peace in Christ”—especially the peace of the soul—is something that must be learned. How, then, can we enjoy peace in Christ? Here are four key points:
- Have Faith and Fully Entrust Yourself to God
When we encounter trials or tribulations, we must trust that God will lead us through them. We must also recognize that any trial given by God is one we are able to endure. Just like Abraham, the greater our faith in God—without any doubt— the more we will experience true peace in our hearts, even amidst suffering and trials.
- Fear God and Be Content
Perhaps we are ordinary people without wealth, power, or fame. But as long as we fear God and do what is right in His eyes, even a simple life will be filled with His abundant grace and inner peace. We will then be able to genuinely praise God for His love and care.
- Obey God’s Word in Everything
The Israelites repeatedly disobeyed God, and as a result, He allowed their enemies to oppress them. Yet, because of His great love, whenever they cried out to Him, He raised up judges to deliver them.
“Only if you carefully obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe with care all these commandments which I command you today, the Lord your God will bless you just as He promised you; you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow; you shall reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over you.” (Deuteronomy 15:5-6, NKJV)
- Do Good Daily
“Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith.” (1 Timothy 1:5, NKJV)
It is more blessed to give than to receive. The Bible teaches us to love one another, and doing good daily is an expression of putting God’s Word into practice. The peace that God grants through such actions is one that never ceases. “Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.” (Proverbs 3:17, NKJV).
“But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.” (Colossians 3:14-15, NKJV). As Christians, we are incredibly blessed. It is only by God’s grace and calling that we have the opportunity to learn, experience, and enjoy the peace found in the Lord. For those who have not yet believed, perhaps they are still lingering outside the door. But as long as they are willing to step inside and come to know the one true God, Jesus Christ, they will find themselves not far from true peace.
If we learn to entrust everything to God and do what pleases Him, we will gradually come to realize just how beautiful the peace in the Lord truly is.
