Choosing True Life Over Daily Living

In life, people chase after two main things: daily living and true life. Jesus teaches, “Seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33). When we prioritize spiritual life, God naturally takes care of our daily needs as a bonus.

Many spend excessive energy seeking material comforts, often neglecting what’s eternally valuable. Choosing overtime pay instead of resting on the Sabbath is an example—prioritizing temporary gains over spiritual well-being. Yet, God promises abundant blessings to those who trust Him.

When the Israelites reached Mount Sinai after escaping Egypt, God gave Moses the Ten Commandments written by His own finger (Exodus 31:18). But the people quickly abandoned God for a golden calf idol. Isn’t it easy for us, too, to place idols like money, status, or comfort above God? “But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law, he meditates day and night” (Psalm 1:2).

God considered destroying the Israelites for their betrayal, yet Moses interceded, reminding Him of His promises to Abraham. “So, the Lord relented from the harm which He said He would do to His people” (Exodus 32:14). Physically, the Israelites were spared, but spiritually, they suffered deep loss, as their names were erased from the “book of the living” (Psalm 69:28).

Moses even offered himself in place of the Israelites, asking God to erase his name instead if He wouldn’t forgive them (Exodus 32:32). Though noble, this request challenged God’s justice, for only the guilty face judgment. God clarified, “Whoever has sinned against Me, I will erase from My book” (Exodus 32:33). Moses was imperfect and couldn’t bear others’ sins.

True redemption required a perfect sacrifice, fulfilled through Jesus Christ. “God was manifested in the flesh” (1 Timothy 3:16), offering Himself sinlessly for everyone’s sins. Anyone who believes and follows Him receives eternal life, a life that truly matters.
