Never Too Far Gone: The Unending Love of God

Have you ever felt like you’re beyond help, like you’ve wandered too far and there’s just no way back? I’ve been there. As I’ve grown older, I’ve found myself pulling away from my parents, feeling more independent, even superior at times. I told myself I didn’t need their advice or help. But life has a funny way of humbling us, doesn’t it? Whenever everything else failed me, my parents were the ones standing by, quietly helping me even when pride stopped me from asking. They showed me forgiveness without end, patience beyond reason, and a love filled with mercy.

It reminds me of the parable of the prodigal son from the Gospel of Luke. The father in this story had every reason to be angry with his younger son. This son had taken his inheritance early, spent it recklessly, and came back crawling when he hit rock bottom. Yet, instead of anger, the father responded with joyful compassion, saying, “For this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found” (Luke 15:24). Imagine the relief, the joy, and the overwhelming love in those words!

The father didn’t just forgive his son quietly. He celebrated loudly. He commanded, “Bring out the best robe and put it on him and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. And bring the fatted calf here and kill it and let us eat and be merry” (Luke 15:22-23). That’s what true forgiveness looks like full of mercy, overflowing with love, and eager to welcome back the lost.

The truth is, I have all been that prodigal son. I have all strayed, messed up, and thought there was no coming back. But here’s the incredible thing: God’s love is greater than my mistakes. Hosea 6:1 tells me clearly, “Come, and let us return to the Lord; for He has torn, but He will heal us; He has stricken, but He will bind us up.” God doesn’t promise a life without pain or trouble, but He promises to heal and restore me.

Think about how many times have I said sorry, only to fall into the same traps again? Yet, God never tires of forgiving me because His love for me is endless. Every day He patiently watches over me, hoping I will choose the right path. When I fail, it grieves Him deeply, yet He remains by the door, always waiting for my return.

So, if you’re feeling distant or too far gone, remember this: No matter how far you’ve wandered, no matter how deeply you’ve fallen, God’s love and mercy are always greater. Start today by confessing your mistakes honestly to God. Reach out in prayer, open your Bible and reconnect with His Word, or seek guidance and fellowship in a trusted community of faith. Surround yourself with supportive believers who will help you stay accountable and encourage you along the journey. He’s ready to heal you, restore you, and joyfully celebrate your return.
