A Christ-Centered Family Legacy

Let’s talk about building a Christ-centered family—a home where every member plays an active role in serving God. Imagine a scene like Jeremiah 7:18a: children gathering wood, fathers kindling the fire, and mothers kneading dough. Although our modern lives look very different, the essence remains: a family united in purpose, working together in love and faith.

In our busy world, parents strive to give the best for their children. We invest in good education, hoping our kids will excel academically and shine in extracurricular activities like sports or music. Yet, while these pursuits help them grow, they also pull us into a whirlwind of schedules and obligations. We often justify the rush— “It’s just one day, surely God understands.” But we must ask ourselves: Are we letting world demands steal our focus from what truly matters?

The Bible reminds us that children are a precious blessing. Proverbs 17:6 calls them “the crown of old men,” and Psalm 127:3–5 tells us they are a gift from the Lord. We celebrate their achievements and enjoy the support they offer, much like Isaac did with Esau. However, history also warns us. Esau’s later choices (Gen 26:34–35) and Samson’s tragic path (Judges 14:2–3; 15:6) show us that success in the world is no substitute for a heart rooted in God’s truth. No amount of material gain or social standing can ease the grief that comes when our loved ones stray from His ways.

So, how do we ensure our children grow up to follow Christ? It starts at home. We can’t just drop them off at church and expect everything to be fine. The Bible instructs us in Proverbs 22:6 to train our children in the way they should go—not just by words but by example. Jesus himself warned against hypocrisy, and Paul urged us to imitate Christ. This means our daily actions—whether we’re eating, working, or relaxing—should reflect God’s love and truth.

Life can be hectic, with church services, music exams, sports matches, and countless other commitments. But if we let the “god of this age” (2 Corinthians 4:4) steal our time, we risk missing out on the rich inheritance God has prepared for us. Instead, imagine establishing a “family altar”—a time each day for prayer, Bible reading, and sharing how God is at work in our lives. It’s a simple yet powerful way to keep our focus on Him.

Biblical examples inspire us. We can think of Abraham, whose obedience and trust not only shaped his destiny but also left a lasting impact on his son Isaac (Genesis 22:11). Their lives teach us that true success isn’t measured by the world’s standards but by the depth of our relationship with God.

Let’s commit to living with Christ at the center of our family life. By teaching, loving, and leading by example, we create a legacy where our children not only know God but walk with Him every day. Come and learn more about the Doctrine through bible study, sermons and fellowship. We warmly welcome you to our upcoming Spring Evangelical Service and Spiritual Convocation (ESSC). You can also join us for the Spring 2025 ESSC via online streaming. Whether it’s live or online, we look forward to seeing you and receiving God’s grace with you!
