Reconsider Our Values

Reflecting on the teachings of Jesus, I’ve come to realize the profound challenge He posed to societal norms and values. He questioned the standards by which success was measured, prioritizing spiritual richness over wealth and status. “I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners,” He declared (Mark 2:17), affirming His mission to reach those marginalized by society.

In my faith journey, I recognize that true value in God’s eyes is not found in material or spiritual elitism. Jesus’ blessing of the poor in spirit, the meek, and those who mourn (Matthew 5:3-5) and His praise for the widow’s small offering (Mark 12:43) over the large sums of the wealthy teach me that in God’s kingdom, the first shall be the servant of all (Mark 9:33-35, 10:45).

I understand that the church should not exalt those who appear more capable, whether physically, financially, intellectually, or spiritually (James 2:3-5). From the parables in Matthew 25, it’s clear that these aspects do not determine our standing before God. What matters is being filled with the Holy Spirit (Matthew 25:1-13), using our God-given talents (Matthew 24:14-30), and showing love to everyone, particularly the least among us (Matthew 25:40).

My aim is to embody this divine mandate, ensuring that my love is never partial nor bound by subjective or societal judgments. In emulating Christ, I strive to serve without prejudice, understanding that God’s love breaks down the barriers that divide us.
