Learn to love, as how Jesus Loves

Emulating the love of Jesus is the heart of my faith journey. This love, as told in John 3:16, comes with the promise of eternal life—a gift given as the highest form of love when God sacrificed His Son for our salvation. This act of divine love calls for an active response from us: to love God because He first loved us, as 1 John 4:19 instructs.

In my walk with Christ, I’ve learned that the love of Jesus doesn’t seek repayment; it is selfless, as He died for us while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8). It is this unearned love that inspires us to love others without expecting anything in return, reflecting the love Christ showed us.

Following His example means we ought to lay down our lives for others, mirroring the sacrifice He made (1 John 3:16). This doesn’t necessarily mean physical death, but a willingness to put the needs of others before our own, showing love in action as we care for those in need (1 John 3:17-18).

The more we love, the more deeply we experience God’s love. It’s not about grand gestures but often simple, kind acts that reflect Christ’s love. This deepens our relationship with Him, and through loving others, we come to understand the magnitude of Christ’s love for us—His willingness to forgive our constant failings.

The Holy Spirit plays a crucial role in this process, pouring out God’s love in our hearts (Romans 5:5), guiding us to love others genuinely, transcending ethnic and cultural boundaries, uniting us in Christ. It is through loving one another that we reflect the fullness of God, drawing others to Christ as we live out the Gospel.

As a disciple of Jesus, my mission is to be a beacon of His love, to live purely and obediently, maintaining the integrity of the commandments, and not taking His grace for granted. This way, the church becomes a vessel of God’s fullness, and our shared love becomes a testament to the world of God’s love at work within us.
