Discovering the Greatest Treasure: My Spiritual Journey at TJC
Hello, friends! I want to share something that deeply inspired me this spring at the Evangelical Services and Spiritual Convocation (ESSC). It was a time of real spiritual enrichment, and there was one sermon that truly resonated with me. Pastor Hu delivered a powerful message entitled “What Is the Most Valuable in the World?” You know, I’ve pondered this question myself before my heart fully embraced faith, but clarity never came until now.
Why do we ask ourselves, “What’s the most valuable thing in the world?” It’s crucial because if we spend our lives chasing the wrong things, we end up with nothing of real value. We, as believers, know that the greatest treasure in our lives, is God Himself. He’s our Creator, the unshakable foundation, the constant in our lives. He’s the breath in our lungs and the light guiding our path, just as we’re reminded in Acts 17:28, “For in Him we live and move and have our being.“
During the sermon, Pastor Hu posed another vital question: “How can we get closer to God?” He stressed the first step is simply believing that God does exist. He talked about the Holy Spirit and how, even though many are grounded in logic and science, encountering the Holy Spirit brings them to an undeniable realization: “There is a God!” This was exactly my experience when I first felt the Holy Spirit in the True Jesus Church (TJC) in Chicago. As a scientist and skeptic, I was transformed 22 years ago when I sought the truth, prayed, and suddenly felt an overwhelming joy and I spoke a new language of praise (spoke in tongue). I knew in that moment, “God really does exist!” Following my baptism, my life changed completely. I was no longer bound by negativity but became a vessel of positivity, just as Philippians 2:13 says, “For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.“
Friends, I had discovered the most precious treasure one can find. Later I read Ephesians 1:13-14: “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.” I was thrilled and gratefully to know that I have received the most valuable treasure from God.
