In Tough Times, Anxious not
“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?” Matthew 6:25
Although we know that God will provide, it is still difficult to stop our anxious thoughts and worries during a tough time. We may be anxious about our health issues, job loss, shrinking investments, or simply making ends meet.
“and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.” II Corinthian 5:15 We often put our focus on what we need for our life on earth because that’s the obvious needs right in front of us, but God promised us, “For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:32-33 Let us be reminded of the Lord’s promises even in tough times and start transforming our minds so we can put our focus on Him instead of us.
1. God will not give us any temptations beyond what we can bear.
Sometimes God allows stressful events unfold to good people to strengthen their faith. Think about Job, a righteous man who lost his family, wealth, and health; Elijah, who’s a faithful prophet of God, but experiencing serious burn-out after being chased for his life; and David, who struggled with anxiety for a long time and cried out to God again and again. “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13
2. God will never let the righteous go hungry.
Our Lord is faithful. He looks after those who fear Him and will never let them go hungry. As King David observed, “I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.” Psalm 37:25 For God knows our needs, from day-to-day needs to the needs of physical and mental wellness; and He is merciful to provide all those to us.
3. When we tithe, God will bless us in ways we cannot imagine.
Often, our anxieties and worries come from our financial difficulties. The Lord blesses us for our obedience, especially during the difficult time. Because God already promised us, “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the LORD of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.” Malachi 3:10 Nevertheless, the blessing comes from our Lord will never be a burden, “The blessing of the LORD brings wealth, without painful toil for it.” Proverbs 10:22
