Overarching Message on Your Needs in Life (10)

How Life Goes On

Throughout her whole life, Martha spent time taking care of people’s needs—people from church, the church itself and people in her life.  One day, the pastor stopped by the room where Martha was doing prep work and figuring out how to close the gap between what was actually done and what should have been done according to the plan.  “You ever think about a retirement life, Martha?” the pastor asked.

We know them when we see them—those people who are different.  They love what they do.

Think about the friend who forgives you and keeps trying to encourage you to get back up on your feet and march on forward.  The brother and sister in Christ who looks you in the eye and provides those words of assurance—you know you are being cared for.  And your co-worker who not only exhibits caring and empathy, but more importantly, exudes pure kindness.

It is not just what they do—it is who they are.  They believe.  And that’s how life goes on.

Most of us want to believe—there’s a little Martha in all of us.  But if we are honest, do we always believe in the journey, the mission, God and even in ourselves?  If not, we will never be able bring that belief to others.

Then life goes on with hope, meaning and love.  It starts with each of us:

  • Do you believe in God?We need God because He is our Father.  We have messed up enough things so many times no number of apologies can set us free.  But believing in God will.  Living a life according to His will and trusting Him will help us believe in ourselves again—if we don’t even believe in ourselves…then no one else will.  “For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”  Romans 10:10
  • Are you believable and truthful to living His Truth?People can relate to us when we are genuine and credible.  When we do what we say, we are believable.  But we can get derailed and go off course.  “Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.”  Ephesians 4:29. People believe in those who have put off their old self and put on a new self.  That’s transformation that is believable.  So put God’s words into action and be true and faithful to Him.  “that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.”  Ephesians 4:22-24
  • How do you radiate your belief? It’s not about others believing in us.  It is about us believing in them.  In a texting, virtual and swiping world, it is hard to send a ripple effect to those around you about your belief.  Saying that you believe in someone is an expression of confidence.  At best you make them feel good about themselves.  But, believing for them is powerful…it is purposeful intention.  “[Love] bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”  1 Corinthians 13:7. Followers of Jesus are expected to lead with love, even in the most challenging or difficult situation. This means assuming the best in others until proven otherwise.  That’s how your life goes on…you shine and radiate love to those around you.  This is when what you believe transforms into what others achieve.  The impersonal becomes personal.  The unbelief is made a belief.

That is the essence of how life goes on:  leading others to believe and enabling that belief to become a living testimony for God and others.  Here is the link to our 10 Basic Beliefs.

Indeed, where there’s belief…there’s hope.
