From Psalm 2, we learn that not only did the Israelites rebel against God’s command, but the nations and kings of the world also refused to let God rule over them. Just because people reject God’s authority doesn’t mean He won’t govern the world. Psalm 2:12 says, “Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way when His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.”
God indeed won’t easily become angry, but that doesn’t mean He won’t get angry. Like Ananias and Sapphira, who not only tried to deceive people but also attempted to deceive God, they provoked the Lord’s fierce wrath. As Peter asked, “Why have you agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord?” This eventually incurred God’s righteous anger.
Today’s society can bring us many pressures that may tempt us to sin against God. But we must not bow down to the world. Romans 12:2 says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
Even when facing life-threatening situations, Daniel remained steadfast because he knew God is faithful. He understood that as long as we obey and follow God’s ways, He will be with us.
In Philippians 2:12, Paul urges us to “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” However, many people overlook this instruction and emphasize God’s mercy. They believe that once saved, they can never lose that privilege. For them, fear is an emotion incompatible with the Gospel and salvation. However, Paul is clear: salvation is a journey that requires a lifelong attitude of “fear and trembling” as we walk with God and grow. We will experience God and grow along this journey, ultimately realizing that reverence is not fear, because God is our Father.
