Job’s Story of Building Family Altar

Hey there, I’m Job. You might have heard about me—things got pretty rough for me at one point, but that’s a story for another time. Right now, I want to talk about something I used to do for my kids. See, back in the day, after every big party or feast, I’d get up early the next morning and offer sacrifices to God. Why? Well, I was worried. Worried that my kids might have slipped up and said something against God, even just in their hearts.

So here’s the deal. As a parent, I knew my kids inside and out—their strengths, their flaws, the whole package. And it’s not like I waited for them to mess up before I did something about it. No, I was proactive. This wasn’t a one-off thing; it was my regular routine. And my kids knew it. They knew I was looking out for them, praying for them, asking for God’s forgiveness on their behalf even before they knew they needed it. I bet it touched them, even if they didn’t say it.

Now, let’s talk about you and your family. Setting up a ‘family altar’ like I did—it’s not just about asking for forgiveness. It’s about making sure God’s word is the compass that keeps you from losing your way. And I know, sometimes when you try to give advice, it seems like it’s going in one ear and out the other. But trust me, those words stick. They hang around in the back of their minds. So when they’re about to take a wrong turn, those words might just be what makes them stop and think twice.

If we don’t speak up, if we don’t show we care, our kids might think faith doesn’t matter. That’s not the message we want to send, right? So when you know something’s up, find the right moment to talk about it. Create a space, a time—your ‘family altar’—where you can all get together, share God’s word, and support each other.

God’s word is key here. If someone’s stumbled, it’s there to help them get back up. If someone’s feeling down, it’s there to bring them comfort. And let’s be real, some stuff we just can’t fix on our own. That’s where God’s word comes in. If someone’s dealing with something heavy, don’t let them carry it all by themselves. Share it, pray about it together. That’s the power of your family altar.
