我們的愛有多深?

As the children of God, apart from abiding in God’s commandments, to show love to one another is part and parcel of our lives. To love mankind is to love God as God is love.

“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” (1 John 4:7-8)

I often think myself as being a kind-hearted and loving person who has high empathy towards others, as was told by the people around me. Even at work, I would not lose my temper even though I know that kindness can be sometimes be seen as weak in a corporate world. However, is that kind of love sufficient in God’s eyes? The more I ponder, the more I realize that the love I have is so small as compared to His love to us. The love that I have shown in this world cannot be measured against Christ love. God is the ultimate example of love, where He has sacrificed His son to bring us eternal life, and He would want us to continue to spread His love to our brethren.

I once heard a testimony that a sister of our church fasted and prayed for about 24 hours upon hearing that another sister was suffering from severe bleeding in her pregnancy. The sister who prayed has enormous love and indeed was filled with God’s love. She has sacrificed her own comfort and time for the love of the sister in Christ.

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud, it is not rude. It is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no records of wrongs. Love never fails.” (1 Corinthians 13:4,5,8)

We have to realize that when we come to church, apart from offering our praise to God and learning about His words, it is also to put His words into action. This is also the time where we show our love and concern towards our brothers and sisters through fellowship and others.

“If anyone has this world’s possession, and sees his brothers and sisters in need, and has no pity on them, how can the love of God abide in him? Let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.” (1 John 3:17-18)

Let us all pray for God to help to fill our heart with Christ love so that we can in turn be able to show God’s love to the people around us with all our heart and soul. May God help us. Amen.
