This image from Jeremiah 17:8 resonates deeply with me—like a tree with roots spreading by the river, drawing life and strength from the constant source. No matter the heat or drought, this tree remains unshaken, continuing to thrive and bear fruit. That’s how I want my faith to be—steadfast, resilient, and fruitful, even when life gets tough.

To truly grow spiritually, I’ve realized that it starts with having the right heart. Jesus’ parable of the Sower has been a mirror for me, reflecting different stages of my spiritual journey. At times, I’ve been like the seed that fell on rocky ground—excited about the Word at first but quick to fall away when challenges came. I’ve also been caught up in life’s worries, like the seed among thorns, where the cares of the world choked out my spiritual life. But then I remember what Jesus said in Luke 8:15: “But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.” This verse—how the seed that falls on good soil represents a noble and good heart, one that holds onto the word and bears fruit with patience—reminds me to strive to cultivate that kind of heart, one that clings to God’s word and lets it take deep root in my life.

As I’ve continued this journey, I’ve learned the importance of moving from spiritual milk to solid food. There was a time when I was content with the basics, but Hebrews 5:12-14 challenges me to grow beyond that—to develop discernment and mature in my understanding of God’s word. It’s not always easy, especially in a world filled with distractions and conflicting messages. But I know that to grow spiritually, I need to be grounded in the truth, discerning it and applying God’s word to every area of my life.

Spiritual growth is a process, one that requires intentional effort and a deep commitment to maturing in faith. I look to the example of Moses, who chose to suffer with God’s people rather than enjoy the short-lived pleasures of sin. His faith was rooted in a long-term vision, focused on God’s promises rather than immediate gratification. Like Moses, I want to keep my eyes on what truly matters, holding fast to my faith and allowing it to shape every aspect of my life.

As I continue to grow, I find myself more focused on living a life that’s pleasing to God. In 2 Corinthians 5:9, Paul reminds us, “Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him.” This verse serves as a guiding principle for me, especially as I strive to align my life with God’s will. It’s a call to continually renew my heart and mind, letting God make all things new in me as I grow in my relationship with Him.

In this ever-changing world, I find comfort in knowing that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. My faith in Him is the foundation that keeps me grounded, no matter what challenges come my way. Spiritual growth is not just about gaining knowledge but about becoming more like Christ, letting His word transform me from the inside out. As I continue to grow, I hold onto the promise that my faith in Him will see me through, helping me to bear fruit that lasts.

I warmly invite you to join us at our upcoming Fall Evangelical Service and Spiritual Convocation in September. We’ll explore this theme of “All Things Become New ”.
