In the emergency room, he begged the doctor to save and reattach them. Given the advancements in medical science, his request wasn&#8217;t unreasonable. However, when the doctor learned that Jason smoked one and a half packs of cigarettes daily, he warned Jason that smoking could cause blood clots, which would prevent blood flow to the reattached fingers, leading to tissue death. Upon hearing this, Jason threw away his cigarettes and vowed never to smoke again.<\/p><p>For those struggling with addiction, Jason&#8217;s story might sound familiar. We know that addictions, especially severe ones, can be challenging to overcome, even with extreme motivation. Conquering an addiction is often more difficult than it seems. Thankfully, Jason&#8217;s surgery was initially successful, but his fingers later turned black due to his inability to resist smoking. After multiple surgeries, doctors could only save the base of his fingers.<\/p><p>We know that the key to combating addiction is prevention. <em>Proverbs 23:26-35<\/em> reminds us to consider the consequences of our actions. Addictions can destroy our future, reputation, relationships, and bring guilt. It&#8217;s not just about the immediate impact, but also the long-term effects that can ripple through every aspect of our lives. Jason ignored the doctor\u2019s warning to avoid smoking, and he paid for it with his fingers. The habits we allow to take root today can either uplift us or lead us down a path of destruction. If we keep making mistakes, God\u2019s grace will eventually be running out. This is why it&#8217;s crucial to be vigilant and proactive in avoiding the snares of addiction.<\/p><p>When addiction takes root, we must examine ourselves deeply, walk away from harmful situations, and ask for God&#8217;s help. Just like Peter cried out, <em>&#8220;Lord, save me&#8221; (Matthew 14:30),<\/em> in addition to professional assistance, we too should seek God&#8217;s strength to conquer addiction. We should surround ourselves with spiritual friends who can offer support, prayers, and guidance. As we navigate the difficult journey of overcoming addiction, it&#8217;s important to remember that the love of Christ compels us to live not for ourselves, but for Him who died and rose again on our behalf (2 Corinthians 5:14-15). This divine love is a powerful force, driving us to break free from the chains of addiction and embrace a life of purpose and freedom in Christ.<\/p><p>Remember, addiction is a boomerang thrown out in pleasure, returning in pain. Any addiction that causes loss of self-control and spiritual integrity must be addressed.
