Gradually, a slew of negative thoughts emerge: Why is my luck so bad? Why am I so unlucky? Why criticize me and not them? It’s all their fault, etc. If we don’t step out of this vicious cycle, we’ll only sink deeper.

We must first take responsibility for ourselves and reflect on our own issues to emulate the humility of Jesus, just as the Bible teaches us to learn from Him. This self-reflection can also aid in the repair of our interpersonal relationships and even lead to positive outcomes. Just like Prophet Jonah in the Book of Jonah, God commanded him to go to Nineveh to proclaim a warning of repentance, saying He would destroy the city for its sins. However, Jonah was unwilling and even fled by ship. When a violent storm threatened to sink the ship, the sailors decided to cast lots to find the culprit behind the calamity, and the lot fell on Jonah. At that moment, Jonah did not complain about his misfortune but admitted his mistake, later asking the sailors to throw him into the sea to calm the storm. Afterwards, in the belly of a fish, he reflected and repented to God, and ultimately, he went to Nineveh to warn the people, who also repented. Facing his problems, Jonah did not shirk his responsibility but actively took it upon himself and made changes, eventually reversing the outcome so that countless people in Nineveh received God’s forgiveness and had a good ending.

Our bad luck and many negative thoughts stem from our evasion and shirking of responsibility. Therefore, we need to squarely face our own issues, emulating Jesus’s humility, kindness, and faithfulness, to turn our situations around and foster healing and positive change.

If you would like to learn more about Truth about God, please continue to read our website’s additional content.
