I remember when I was a truth seeker, during the week, my wife, who was already a believer, invited me to study Bible with a deacon we never met. This was the earliest spiritual activity I participated in. Gradually, we began to watch the livestream our church provided to observe Sabbath, which made me feel what a wonderful grace it was to “have one day in a week to let go of the worries of the world.” Later, a local believer family contacted us and invited us to observe Sabbath.

I finally understood what the term “rejoices” in the Bible meant after the first family service where we worshipped and prayed together. During one of the Sabbath family services, we were told that Chicago church, the nearest TJC to us, was going to hold an Evangelical Services & Spiritual Convocation (ESSC). I mumbled to myself, “Going to church is certainly as nice as this family service thing. But Chicago is too far away. Perhaps this time it can be like last time, I would just stay home and let my wife go by herself.” I did not even understand the difference between family service and an ESSC at that time.

Thank God, I paid it a visit even though I did not respond well in the beginning. But after that, I changed. Now almost every time after we visit the Chicago church, I say the same thing to my wife “This place is like an oasis in a desert. Only God can set up such a warm, peaceful, and lovely place in this hustle and bustle Chicago for His people to rest and worship Him.”

After being nourished by several ESSCs, God led me to be baptized and become a believer. A few months later, He also brought another gift to my family. “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward” (Psalm 127:3). During the 2023 Fall ESSC, my wife and I decided to bring the soon-to-be-born child closer to God. Therefore, while maintaining the bi-weekly family service with other local families, we would also come to the Chicago church to observe Sabbath every other week. “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded” (James 4:8). Just like how it states in this verse, if we want to draw closer to God, we must first start with our “hands”, which is actions. Only after we take actions can our ‘heart’ truly be directed toward God.

Though I don’t know where our family’s future will land, I believe God will prepare and guide us. May all the glory, honor, and power be on to His holy name, Hallelujah. Amen!

I invite you to join us to walk this journey of transformation and to be blessed by God abundantly.
