Believing. Repenting. Forgiving. Obeying. Blessing. Sharing. These are some of the words to describe how I felt and experienced during the Fall 2023 Evangelical Service and Spiritual Convocation. The best part was that I was experiencing the whole event together with others. We were all loving God and loving Man just as Jesus desired for us.

The theme was “Blessings of Salvation” which was brought to live through sermons, hymnal singing, prayers, testimonies and fellowship with meals together. Over a period of four days starting with evening service on Thursday, 14 September through afternoon of Sunday, 17 September, I felt the power of God’s teachings and His Holy Spirit opening and widening my perspective on how I have lived my life, what He wants me to do and be for Him and what I needed to focus on going forward.

Through a series of sermons on the Eight Beatitudes from Matthew 5:3-10, I felt a deeper understanding on each of God’s blessings. Indeed, God blesses everyone for He gives benefits from the sun and rain to the evil and the unjust as well. From the eight beatitudes, I learned more about what was common across all eight of them. It is about being aware that I am lacking and being incomplete. Being able to feel short requires that I need to open my spiritual eyes to be aware and then deepen my belief in Him to receive profound blessings. The world defines blessing as anything that brings pleasure, contentment or good fortune. God’s blessings are literally out of this world PLUS He blesses us through our own hands when we internalize the power of the Holy Spirit. Just take a look at how God blessed Joseph no matter how hard times were for him and what he was going through. Joseph was able to deliver and experience success even under the most adverse conditions because He believed and trusted in God.

But I learned the necessity to repent, to forgive and to be forgiven. It is not enough for me to have remorse and then repent. Judas recognized his betrayal of Jesus but he did not return to Jesus to repent and also ask for forgiveness. Instead, he hung himself. I must remember to always turn back to God and ask for forgiveness. Then blessings will be even more abundant.
