While the term “social justice” isn’t explicitly found in the Bible, it aligns with biblical principles of justice and equality.

The Bible emphasizes the importance of justice, equality, and compassion. Micah 6:8 encourages doing justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with God. Jeremiah 22:3 urges executing righteousness, delivering the oppressed, and avoiding wrongdoing. Matthew 25:41-46 highlights the significance of aiding the needy, with eternal consequences.

The question arises: Should we prioritize spiritual, or material needs? Both are important, as emphasized in 1 John 3:17. Jesus’ mission included addressing both spiritual and physical needs, shown in Luke 4:18-19. Balancing both aspects is vital.

Putting social justice into action requires bridging the gap between understanding and practice. Acts of kindness and justice need not be grand gestures; even simple actions can make a difference. Perseverance is essential, as challenges may arise. Difficulties are part of the spiritual battle, but relying on God’s strength can overcome them.

So acting for social justice doesn’t require extreme measures, but rather daily actions in our lives. Each individual can contribute in their own way, whether through volunteering, community involvement, or advocating for change. Wisdom and discernment, guided by the Holy Spirit, help navigate these efforts without causing unnecessary discord.

In essence, social justice and Christianity are intertwined by the common thread of compassion and the pursuit of a just society. Through understanding, action, and reliance on God’s guidance, believers can contribute positively to the world around them.

I invite you to join us on this journey of faith and for the enrichment of your life by taking the first step in attending our service at our church located as follows:

4N550 Church Road
Bensenville, IL 60106
Google Maps

For online streaming, please click here.

For regular service hours, please click here.

Email us at ilovejesus@tjc-chicago.org

Social justice and Christianity, often stereotyped and misunderstood, share a common ground: the desire to make a positive impact and help others.
