I was in my late twenties, and it hit me hard. We first knew about her illness six months prior to her death. As a family, we began praying together every night, sessions that started at twenty minutes and grew longer. We prayed for her healing, but surprisingly, God began teaching us during these prayers. I was guided to address my lack of love for my sister, which I did, and it seemed to cleanse our family.<\/p><p>Mom&#8217;s pain eased, but she started losing muscle strength. The night before her death, she spoke after a long silence, only two words &#8220;I saw.&#8221; We guessed she had seen Jesus, an angel, or she knew she was leaving us. She passed away with a smile &#8211; a miracle and a precious gift from God. The day she passed; the morgue staff mentioned her as the most beautiful corpse they&#8217;d ever seen &#8211; a request my mom once made to God. She wanted to die pretty, and it came true &#8211; her skin was soft, shiny, like a newborn\u2019s.<\/p><p>A week later, my neighbor, whose brother also died from liver cancer, asked me if my mom died in great pain. I was surprised to learn that liver cancer patients usually die in extreme pain, but my mom didn&#8217;t. That was another blessing from God.<\/p><p>After her death, many came forward to share stories of my mother&#8217;s kindness and love, like helping a young man improve his English to become a pastor or encouraging a stuttering man to join the church choir. We hadn&#8217;t known about these secret acts of love.<\/p><p>Mom&#8217;s life was one of devotion to God, and she was truly blessed. She always taught us to give to God, that God would always give back more. One time, she donated her whole month&#8217;s salary to God and the very next month, she got an equal bonus.<\/p><p>A verse from Romans 12:10-13 encapsulates her life, &#8220;Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord&#8230;\u201d Sometimes, I&#8217;ve wondered why God took her.
