Think of adversity as a door—if that’s the case, then wisdom is the key we use to unlock it and grab the treasures behind it. Without wisdom to guide us through these tough times, we might end up failing, getting discouraged, stumbling, or even losing hope. Often, we might try to dodge our problems with quick fixes, but that’s really just avoiding the issue! So, what does it mean to have wisdom in the face of adversity?

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (Proverbs 9:10). Recognizing God, believing in His power, and seeking His help is the first step in this wisdom. For example, there was a centurion whose servant was sick, and he had heard about Jesus’ great healing powers. When Jesus came to Capernaum, the centurion rushed to Him for help. He sought Jesus urgently for healing, believing that just one word from Jesus would heal his servant at home, far away. In the end, Jesus helped him and commended his faith. This man actively sought God’s help without doubting His power.

“Behold, the fear of the Lord that is wisdom, And to depart from evil is understanding.” (Job 28:28). The second step in wisdom is to guard your heart and do what’s right in God’s eyes, especially when you’re in the middle of trouble, waiting for God’s help. Don’t do anything that would offend God. Take Daniel as an example—faced with life-threatening adversity, he chose not to obey the king’s godless commands. Instead, he trusted in God’s righteousness and protection, continuing to do what pleased God, even if it meant being thrown into the lions’ den. He held on to his faith and did the right thing, and ultimately, God rescued him and lifted him up.

We need wisdom to face adversity in a way that makes it meaningful. This wisdom lies not only in our relationship with God but also in our actions. If we want to grow through adversity, the first step is to know God and seek His help. Then, we must keep ourselves from taking shortcuts or using clever tricks to avoid adversity. We need to ensure we do not offend God and must renew our behavior. Because God is a God of mercy and also a God of justice.

I encourage you to join our church, to seek and experience the truth of God!
