How do we go about that? We are all different vessels for God. Each and every one of us has a specific purpose for God. Let’s take a look at the book of Nehemiah and see what we can apply when we are in college and career.

Rule #1. We must learn to rely on God to build or re-build ourselves, seeking Him to understand what kind of person and vessel we should become. The book of Nehemiah records various skillful and dedicated craftsmen and builders. Their goal was to rebuild the wall, and they each did their part to contribute to achieving the goal. The purpose of them rebuilding the wall was to protect them from getting attacked by their enemies. Similarly, we are created by God with our own talents and gifts. How can we use our gifted talents as a foundation to pick majors in college and later on choose careers to shine for the Lord? For example, let’s say we are good at speech, of course we can pick communication as our major and then go for a career such as news reporting or public relations. But how can we differentiate ourselves from the rest of people who are also good at communication? Here is how.

Do you know that 70% of the projects, no matter what industry or discipline, failed to meet original scope, time, and/or cost expectations? And a third of them were caused by poor communication, which makes communication critical for all disciplines to deliver accurate and precise deliverables. Therefore, we are no longer limited to one career or two. This means that if we inspect ourselves to see what gifts we have from God, map them out, and look at different combinations and possibilities by connecting the dots, it will lead to a bigger impact. Hence God’s glory can be manifested even more. I want to ask you one more time: if our vessel for God is meant to be builders, then what skill set I must acquire to be a good builder? Not only academically or professionally, but most importantly, spiritually, we need to ask God to “build ourselves up in our most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. (Jude 1:20)”.

May God be our builder and also make us skillful and dedicated builders of His church. Let’s ask God to guide you what dots you have and how to connect your gifted dots. Again, Rule #1…Rely on God. Be on the look out for Rule #2 in the next wave of College and Career series.

We warmly invite you to come to the True Jesus Church’s bi-annual Evangelical Service and Spiritual Convocation. See details below.

18-21 April, 2024 Evangelical Service and Spiritual Convocation

Thursday, 18 April, 2024 6:50PM to 8:10PM
Friday and Saturday, 19-20 April, 2024 9:00AM to 8:10PM
Sunday, 21 April, 2024 9:00AM to 1:00PM
Complimentary lunch and dinner will be served.

Please find our church location below:

4N550 Church Road
Bensenville, IL 60106
Google Maps

For online streaming, please click here.

For regular service hours, please click here.

Email us at ilovejesus@tjc-chicago.org

Thrive in College & Career (5)

/*!
