While we had our share of disagreements during my adolescence, mostly rooted in my yearning for independence, distance and time remarkably enhanced our bond. This change was neither sudden nor was it merely a result of physical separation; it was deeply intertwined with my growing relationship with God.<\/p><p>My high school years were marked by rebelliousness. But a pivotal moment came in my junior year when I received the Holy Spirit. This not only calmed my rebellious streak but steered me towards a closer relationship with God. I chose a university close to home, attracted by its proximity to a youth Bible study, which played a profound role in nurturing my faith. As <em><i>James 5:16<\/i><\/em>\u00a0says<em><i>, \u201cConfess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed.&#8221;<\/i><\/em>\u00a0This scripture came alive as my mother, and I began to lean on each other for spiritual support.<\/p><p>My college years brought newfound depth to my conversations with my parents, especially with my mother. What began as routine check-ins evolved into deep, meaningful exchanges. These conversations transformed our relationship from mere parent-child to friends and fellow believers. We began sharing our challenges, praying together, and supporting one another spiritually.<\/p><p>However, the journey was not without its challenges. Misunderstandings still arose, and <em><i>Proverbs 15:1<\/i><\/em>\u00a0aptly points out<em><i>, \u201ca soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.&#8221;<\/i><\/em>\u00a0This reminded me of the importance of communication and respect. <em><i>Hebrews 12:9<\/i><\/em>\u00a0also guides us, saying, <em><i>&#8220;Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live?&#8221;<\/i><\/em>\u00a0This taught me the value of discipline from both our heavenly and earthly fathers.<\/p><p>As I matured, I realized that regardless of age, I&#8217;d always be a child in my parents&#8217; eyes. <em><i>Ephesians 6:1<\/i><\/em>\u00a0reminds us, <em><i>\u201cChildren, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.&#8221;<\/i><\/em>\u00a0We are all children in the sight of our caregivers, regardless of age. This relationship of mutual love and respect, enhanced by our shared faith, transformed our home into a haven I yearned to return to after my college years.<\/p><p>In essence, college years didn\u2019t just offer academic lessons but life lessons. While parents may always see their offspring as children, it&#8217;s essential to embrace that enduring love.
