No matter how hard I tried, I couldn\u2019t cut the stems for my floral arrangement. My friend, a healthcare professional, observed silently before holding up a few flower stems and asking how many I saw.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFive,\u201d I answered confidently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s three,\u201d she corrected me. Then she asked, \u201cWhy did you fall earlier?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI lost my balance,\u201d I admitted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou need to get your eyes checked.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A trip to the ophthalmologist and retina specialist revealed devastating news\u2014I was now blind in one eye. The doctors confirmed that no further surgery could restore my sight. I had just left the high-stress corporate world, seeking a more peaceful life, but I wasn\u2019t prepared for this.<\/p>\n<p>However, when I put on my prescribed glasses, the world changed. Everything became sharp and clear\u2014especially brake lights. Without glasses, they were just red blobs. With them, they were crisp and distinct.<\/p>\n<p>It made me wonder\u2014what else had I been missing?<\/p>\n<p>This wake-up call led me to a deeper realization: I needed to return to God in a more intimate, holy, and obedient way.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><b><i>\u201cTherefore, say to them, &#8216;Thus says the Lord of hosts: &#8220;Return to Me,&#8221; says the Lord of hosts, &#8220;and I will return to you,&#8221;<\/i><\/b><\/em><\/strong><strong><b>&nbsp;says the Lord of hosts.\u201d<\/b><\/strong>&nbsp;(Zechariah 1:3)<\/p>\n<p><strong><b>A World That Feels Blurry<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s world is chaotic\u2014economically, socially, and spiritually. Prices soar, wages shrink, and uncertainty looms everywhere. It feels like everything has been turned upside down.<\/p>\n<p>But has it really?<\/p>\n<p>The truth is, we\u2019ve always clung to the illusion of certainty. In reality, life is inherently uncertain. What have we been missing? Perhaps it&#8217;s time for a new perspective\u2014one that focuses on what we <em><i>can<\/i><\/em>&nbsp;change.<\/p>\n<p>We can control our choices, our attitudes, and how we create opportunities for others amid uncertainty. And most importantly, we can return to God.<\/p>\n<p>Like the prodigal son, we need to recognize that only God provides true certainty. When we rest in Him, we have enough.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><b><i>\u201cThe Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.\u201d<\/i><\/b><\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;(Psalm 23:1)<\/p>\n<p><strong><b>Lessons from David and Solomon<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>King David lived a life filled with trials, battles, and hardships. He lacked the wealth, wisdom, and prestige that his son Solomon later attained. Yet, David reached the profound conclusion: \u201cThe Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite all his struggles, David found fulfillment in God.<\/p>\n<p>Solomon, in contrast, had everything\u2014wisdom, riches, and peace. Yet at the end of his life, he lamented that it was all meaningless, declaring:<\/p>\n<p><em><i>\u201cVanity of vanities, all is vanity<\/i><\/em><strong><b>.\u201d<\/b><\/strong>&nbsp;(Ecclesiastes 1:2)<\/p>\n<p>Despite his unparalleled success, Solomon felt unfulfilled.<\/p>\n<p>The contrast between father and son teaches us that fulfillment doesn\u2019t come from wealth, status, or even wisdom. It comes from making God our Shepherd. Only then will our hearts find contentment.<\/p>\n<p><strong><b>Perspective on Pace and Direction<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Regaining focus in a confusing world isn\u2019t just about clarity\u2014it\u2019s about trusting God\u2019s timing.<\/p>\n<p>Returning to God helps us understand our purpose, shaping not only our direction but also our pace and&nbsp;our <a href=\"https:\/\/tjc-chicago.org\/2025-spring-essc-spiritualgrowth-2-ia-1\/\">role in life<\/a>. As leaders, followers, and servants of God, we must ensure that the \u201clyrics\u201d of our lives match the \u201cmelody\u201d of His plan. We can\u2019t just lead people where <em><i>we<\/i><\/em>&nbsp;want to go. We must meet them where they are and guide them at <strong><b>God\u2019s pace<\/b><\/strong>&nbsp;toward His green pastures.<\/p>\n<p><strong><b>Perspective on Greener Pastures<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Where are the greener pastures we long for? They are not in promotions, possessions, or personal achievements. They are in <strong><b>heaven<\/b><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Life brings challenges and change, but with every shift comes the opportunity to witness God\u2019s grace. The key is not striving to <strong><b>find<\/b><\/strong>&nbsp;greener pastures but surrendering to <strong><b>let God lead us<\/b><\/strong>&nbsp;there.<\/p>\n<p>When we trust Him, we realize that abundance is not about having more\u2014it\u2019s about recognizing that we already have <strong><b>enough<\/b><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><b>From One Generation to the Next<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Years ago, when my son Joey was little, he had to undergo surgery and remain in isolation afterward. In the sterile pre-op room, as the nurse inserted a needle in his arm, he turned to me and asked, \u201cMommy, will everything be OK?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite my fear, I forced confidence into my voice and assured him, \u201cYes, it\u2019s going to be OK.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fast-forward years later, the roles were reversed. I was the one in the hospital for surgery. Before I went in, Joey\u2014now grown and strong\u2014squeezed my hand and repeated those same words back to me:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMommy, everything is going to be OK.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Life will always be uncertain, from generation to generation. But one thing remains unchanged: <strong><b>God\u2019s faithfulness<\/b><\/strong>. That\u2019s the legacy we must pass on\u2014not just knowledge, wealth, or success, but <strong><b>succession in faith<\/b><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><b>A New Perspective on \u201cEnough\u201d<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We often chase after \u201cmore\u201d because we fear we don\u2019t have enough. But when we return to God, we see that we <strong><b>already do<\/b><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>We move from the unknown to the known, from fear to hope. Let\u2019s choose to see life through the lens of faith\u2014trusting that in God\u2019s hands, we are never lacking. <strong><b>He is our Shepherd, and we shall not want.<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Come join us for the Spring Evangelical Service and Spiritual Convocation (ESSC). His downfall reminds us that pride is a silent destroyer, capable of leading us away from God.<\/p><p>Satan\u2019s primary tactics are deception, manipulation, and pride. He twists God\u2019s word, as seen in Eden, and uses neutrality to weaken believers&#8217; resolve (Gen 3:1). He also stirs up pride, convincing people they know better than God.<\/p><p>To resist, we must guard our hearts against pride, hold fast to God\u2019s word, and stay vigilant in prayer (1 Cor 2:16; 2 Tim 1:13). The final battle is near (Rev 20:7\u20138), and only those who stand firm will overcome.
