Temptation often arises:<\/p><ol><li><b><\/b><strong><b>After a spiritual breakthrough<\/b><\/strong>\u2013 Just as Jesus was tempted after His baptism, new believers often face immediate trials.<\/li><li><b><\/b><strong><b>Before serving God<\/b><\/strong>\u2013 Those passionate about ministry will encounter spiritual opposition.<\/li><li><b><\/b><strong><b>When alone<\/b><\/strong>\u2013 Isolation makes one vulnerable to temptation.<\/li><li><b><\/b><strong><b>During physical weakness<\/b><\/strong>\u2013 The devil attacks when we are weary, hungry, or vulnerable.<\/li><\/ol><p><strong><b>The Purpose of Temptation<\/b><\/strong><\/p><p>The Greek word <em><i>Peiraz\u00f3<\/i><\/em>\u00a0means both \u201ctemptation\u201d and \u201ctrial.\u201d The same event can be viewed in two ways:<\/p><ul><li><b><\/b><strong><b>God allows trials<\/b><\/strong>to strengthen and refine us.<\/li><li><b><\/b><strong><b>The devil tempts<\/b><\/strong>to destroy us and lead us away from God.<\/li><\/ul><p>James 1:13 makes it clear that <strong><b>God does not tempt anyone<\/b><\/strong>, but <strong><b>He allows trials for our growth<\/b><\/strong>. James 1:14 explains that temptation arises because of <strong><b>our own desires<\/b><\/strong>, which Satan exploits to lure us into sin.<\/p><p><strong><b>The Danger of Falling into Temptation<\/b><\/strong><\/p><p>Sin starts small but grows if left unchecked (James 1:15). Like a trap set for an animal, the devil uses desires\u2014money, fame, pleasure\u2014to ensnare us, leading to spiritual destruction.<\/p><p><strong><b>How to Overcome Temptation<\/b><\/strong><\/p><ol><li><b><\/b><strong><b>Follow Jesus\u2019 Example<\/b><\/strong>\u2013 He overcame temptation through <strong><b>prayer, fasting, and the power of the Holy Spirit<\/b><\/strong>\u00a0(Matthew 4:2).<\/li><li><b><\/b><strong><b>Use God\u2019s Word<\/b><\/strong>\u2013 Jesus responded to Satan\u2019s temptations with Scripture.<\/li><li><b><\/b><strong><b>Seek the Holy Spirit\u2019s Strength<\/b><\/strong>\u2013 Human effort alone is not enough; victory comes through reliance on God.<\/li><li><b><\/b><strong><b>Practice Fasting and Prayer<\/b><\/strong>\u2013 Denying the flesh strengthens spiritual discipline and self-control.<\/li><\/ol><p><strong><b>The Three Major Temptations (1 John 2:16)<\/b><\/strong><\/p><ol><li><b><\/b><strong><b>The Lust of the Flesh<\/b><\/strong>\u2013 Physical desires and indulgence.<\/li><li><b><\/b><strong><b>The Lust of the Eyes<\/b><\/strong>\u2013 Materialism and greed.<\/li><li><b><\/b><strong><b>The Pride of Life<\/b><\/strong>\u2013 Arrogance, status, and self-glory.<\/li><\/ol><p><strong><b>Victory Through Struggle<\/b><\/strong><\/p><p>Every believer <strong><b>must face these battles daily<\/b><\/strong>.
