Ever since electricity became a standard household feature, technology has been a fact of life, even for areas of the world that do not have reliable sources of electricity. and since then, from electric light to television to computer to internet to artificial intelligence (AI), not only do we use technology in our personal lives, but it is practically impossible to be a student or employee without it. Then the question, for Christians, becomes how do we use modern technology to enhance our life, personally, professional and spiritually.<\/p><p>Priority<\/p><p>There is no doubt that God should be our priority always. When we are pursuing college or career or faith, no matter how we use tools along the process, our faith should not be conflicted or compromised. For example, do we use modern technology to meet Godly expectations or to satisfy fleshly desires? \u00a0<\/p><p><em><i>\u201cAll things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.\u201d (1 Corinthians 6: 12)<\/i><\/em><\/p><p>Productivity<\/p><p>Modern technology makes us more efficient, so we save time and energy to get a job done. What do we do with the extra time then? This is tied to priority mentioned earlier. Do we use the extra time to care for other colleagues? Do we use the extra time to improve ourselves so we can be a better student or employer?<\/p><p>Adaptability<\/p><p>The Bible taught us to be relevant, <em><i>\u201c\u2026I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.\u201d (1 Corinthians 9: 22) <\/i><\/em>Being relevant means we need to adapt to others and the environment, understanding different people and their needs and meeting them where they are without compromising our faith. Can you imagine that today, in 2025, you give a file (work file, family photos, sermons) to others in a Compact Disc (CD, which is an obsolete physical storage device for data)? It was appropriate and popular 3 decades. But technology has advanced rapidly and progressively. We, Christians, also need to adapt to embrace changes in the world, while holding steadfast to our faith.<\/p><p>Like many other things in this world, technology is a tool that we can use for a wide range of purposes. As Christians, we can use it to support our growth of the career, family and the church, but let us be vigilant and wise. While we don\u2019t know what new advances technology will bring to us tomorrow, God\u2019s standard and expectation remain the same forever.\u00a0Come and learn more about the <a href=\"https:\/\/tjc-chicago.org\/about\/basic-beliefs\/\"><u>Doctrine<\/u><\/a>\u00a0through bible study, sermons and fellowship.
